What is CISSL
Immigration New Zealand has just announced the creation of a Construction and Infrastructure Skill Shortage List.
This new list identifies occupations currently in demand in New Zealand and simplifies the process of granting temporary work visas to people who have the required skills to fill identified shortages.
The CISSL replaces all occupations currently on the Canterbury Skill Shortage List and construction-related occupations on the Immediate Skill Shortage List. It also covers all regions throughout New Zealand.
What this means for you
This means that if you meet the qualification and/or work experience requirements of the list, you might be eligible for Essential Skills Work visa.
When does the list become effective?
The list became effective on 17th December 2018. The CISSL will be reviewed in early 2019 to reflect labour market requirements.

Changes to Remuneration Thresholds
From 26th November 2018, remuneration thresholds in Skilled Migrant and Essential Skills policies will be increasing.
The new thresholds are based on the New Zealand median salary and wage rate of $25 per hour (up 2.9% from last year), equivalent to $52,000 per annum for a 40-hour per week job. The new threshold will only affect new applications made on or after 26 November 2018.
Current visa processing times
Due to a high number of visa applications, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is experiencing delays in assessments which are likely to last until March 2019.
