Drivers in Melbourne’s southeast are closer to safety and less congested roads with construction works underway.

Early works, including site establishment and tree removal, have begun, with major construction starting in the coming weeks to duplicate 3.8km of road between McCormicks Road and Western Port Highway.

MACA Civil and BMD Constructions are delivering the Hall Road Upgrade, which will create more than 850 direct jobs throughout construction while improving safety and traffic flow.

“Once complete, the Hall Road Upgrade will provide huge improvements to the existing road network for the 17,000 vehicles that use this road every day,” says Minister for Transport Jacinta Allan.

The project will increase lanes on Hall Road to two in each direction between McCormicks Road and Western Port Highway. Intersections at McCormicks Road, Taylors Road, Western Port Highway, Evans Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road will also be upgraded to improve traffic flow for freight, commuters and locals.

New walking and cycling paths along sections of Hall Road will also be built to improve connectivity and provide more ways to travel.

The project will build on improvements already delivered by the Thompsons Road Upgrade and Hallam Road Upgrade and follows the current construction work on the nearby Western Port Highway, which will replace the roundabouts at the intersections of Ballarto Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road with traffic lights.

The project will also complement the Lathams Road Upgrade in Carrum Downs and the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade in Cranbourne, improving traffic flow, enhancing connectivity and reducing congestion for the 51,000 combined motorists who use these roads every day.

In addition, the Labor Government is delivering the Cranbourne Line Upgrade – adding eight kilometres of new, duplicated track between Dandenong and Cranbourne. The upgrade has added an extra 50 train services weekly on the Line since February, including every 10 minutes on average in the morning peak.

The Cranbourne Line Upgrade has also created more than 1,000 jobs throughout construction, adding to the jobs bonanza in Melbourne’s growing southeast.

“We are improving travel in Melbourne’s south-east through significant investment in road and rail – ensuring the growing community has better access to jobs, healthcare and education,” says the Minister for Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan.

More than $23 billion is being invested into significant road and rail projects in Melbourne’s southeast as part of Victoria’s Big Build, which will transform the way people move around the area.
