Civil Engineering Technician Job Description
Civil Engineering Technicians are professionals that conduct tests of construction materials, prepare tabulations and sketches, and assist in the cost estimation with other Civil Engineering Professionals and Engineering Technologists.
Responsibilities
- Ensure activities are set out as per drawings and specifications
- Assist with data management such as quantities and volumes
- Apply appropriate procedures and select the correct equipment
- Prepare tabulations, plan, and designs
- Estimate material costs and ensure finished works are within specification
- Collect and analyse data, and carry out computations
- Inspect civil works and organise and supervise maintenance and repair work
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in engineering or a similar field
- A practical-minded hands-on-approach coupled with excellent communication and people skills
- Experience within the civil construction industry
- Driver’s license strongly recommended to travel between work sites
- Good understanding of engineering principles
- Be proficient in using the computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant technical tools and software
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Must hold a WHS White Card to certify that you have completed the working safely on construction sites course
- Bonus – Register with professional engineering associations (Engineers Australia or Institution of Mechanical Engineers) to grow your connections and enhance your credibility
Working Conditions
- Travel may be required to different worksites
- Safety equipment must be worn during the on-site construction phase
- Work in an office or on-site environment
- Extra hours of work may be required when nearing the completion of a project
Average Salary
- $100k – $120k per year in Australia
