Survey Manager Job Description
Survey Managers manage the functions of all surveying activities, ensuring accurate data collection for mapping, design, and construction. Their general duties are to manage survey teams, data processing, and equipment to ensure that surveys align with requirements and regulatory standards for civil engineering and construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead surveying team by providing guidance, assigning tasks and fostering a collaborative work environment
- Develop surveying plans, determine the scope, objectives and methods required for accurate data collection
- Implement quality assurance processes to ensure accurate and consistent data collection
- Determine appropriate surveying techniques, such as GPS, total stations, and laser scanning
- Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, contractors, and other engineering-related professionals to integrate survey data into construction processes
- Manage survey budgets, track expenses, and optimise resource allocation
- Enforce safety protocols and guidelines during fieldwork to ensure the well-being or surveying teams and site personnel
- Prepare and present survey reports, maps and data visualisations for client review and project documentation
Requirements
- Hold a qualification in Land or Engineering Surveying, or any other related qualifications
- Experience working on large construction projects through a survey firm
- Ability to work and communicate as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving skills when difficulties arise
- Strong Understanding of providing survey functions for civil and construction works
- Strong leadership, team management and communication skills
- Demonstrative experience of modern survey instrumentation, including total stations, GPS, data modelling and manipulation through a survey CAD package
- A firm understanding of providing survey functions for civil and construction works, including pipelines
- Experience managing a team of surveyors
Working Conditions
- Travel may be required to worksites
- Work in both an indoor and outdoor environment
- Work in varying weather conditions
- Extra hours may be required when nearing the completion of a project
- Collaborative work with other professionals working on the projects
Average Salary
- $100k – $130k per year in Australia
- $80k – $145k per year in New Zealand
