Knowing 12D software could be key to securing a job

Our ConsultANZ recruiters get many emails from candidates who have great CVs, yet still, struggle to secure their first job in Australia.

The statistics prove it too: over 40% of civil engineering candidates are underqualified for the positions they apply for. These candidates often lack knowledge of the right engineering design software.

Currently, the most widely used program in Australia and New Zealand is 12D, which is an Australian made surveying, terrain modelling and civil engineering software.

It allows the production of such projects as mapping, site layouts, road, rail and highway design, residential and land development, and environmental impact studies.

Although 12D is now used in 65 countries worldwide, it is not part of the university curriculum and candidates who want to greatly increase their chances of getting a job, need to learn this program independently. 12D Design Drafters are the most sought after.

Other civil design software you should know.

Another widely used software is AutoCAD Civil3D. This software is used by civil engineers and other professionals to plan, design, and manage civil engineering projects and is widely used on many infrastructure projects. Those who currently use AutoCAD will find this software straightforward as Civil 3D was originally created to be an add-on for AutoCAD.

Autodesk Revit is also a popular building information modelling software for architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, designers and contractors developed by Autodesk.  Revit is 4D BIM capable with tools to plan and track various stages in the building’s lifecycle, from concept to construction and later maintenance and/or demolition.

As the demand for 3D modelling increases, there is also a shortage of suitable candidates with 12D, Civil 3D and Revit.
