Automation Engineer Job Description
An automation engineer is responsible for designing, programming, and implementing control systems that automate various processes and machinery in different industries, including construction. They are crucial in developing and integrating automated systems for material handling, building management and equipment control.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement control systems, including blueprints and diagrams to ensure functionality
- Programme in various languages (e.g. C++, Java, and Python) to develop software
- Integrate system components, including sensors, actuators, and programme logic controllers
- Test and debug systems to ensure accuracy, reliability, and stability
- Ensure that automated systems meet safety standards and regulations to prevent accidents and risks
- Provide training and support to operators and clients
- Create and maintain documentation, including user manual, repair logs, and technical guides to assist with system operations
- Collaborate with other engineering-related professionals, software developers, stakeholders, and clients
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- Experience with automation systems and technologies
- Knowledge of programming languages such as C++, Python, and Java.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Communicate and collaborate skills with contractors, architects, and owners.
Working Conditions
- Work in both an indoor and outdoor environment
- Work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and tight deadlines
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and maintenance personnel
- Safety equipment must be worn onsite at all time
Average Salary
- $105k to $125k per year in Australia
- $95k to $115k per year in New Zealand
