Civil Engineer Job Description
Civil Engineers plan, design, manage, and construct a range of infrastructure, including roads, railways, bridges, airports, mines, buildings, dams, water systems, and several more. They analyse sites to see whether a project is feasible and use specific software to develop designs.
Responsibilities
- Inspect project sites to monitor and manage construction professionals working
- Analyse site locations to determine the feasibility of construction projects
- Develop detailed structured designs using computer software such as CAD and resolve any challenges that arise
- Plan and manage budgets and project resources to ensure that the construction complies with rules and regulations
- Estimate equipment and costs of labour for construction projects
- Ensure compliance with relevant guidelines, rules and environmental regulations at every stage of a project
Requirements
- Must hold a WHS White Card to certify that you have completed the working safely on construction sites course
- In-depth knowledge of construction best practices
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or any other qualified certifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Aptitude for computing and design
- Liaise with clients and other engineering professionals, as well as the ability to monitor staff onsite
Working Conditions
- May work on public or private infrastructure projects
- Can work for local departments, consulting organisations, mining companies or engineering contractors
- Work is either in an office or at a construction site
- Safety equipment must be worn during the on-site construction phase
Average Salary
- $90k – $110k per year in Australia
- $95k – $100k per year in New Zealand
