Geodetic Surveyor Job Description
A geodetic surveyor measures and understands the Earth’s geometric shape, orientation in space, and gravitational field. They use precision instruments and satellite technologies to establish long-distance measurements and geographical positioning essential for mapping, construction, and scientific research.
Responsibilities
- Measure and analyse Earth’s surface to establish precise geodetic control point
- Conduct field surveys using advanced instruments such as GPS and total stations
- Determine accurate positions of points to create detailed maps and support navigation systems
- Collaborate with other professionals to ensure precise land development and infrastructure planning
- Monitor and assess changes in the Earth’s surface over time for geospatial analysis
- Employ mathematical and statistical methods to process survey data and ensure accuracy
- Utilise geographic information systems (GIS) for spatial data analysis and mapping
- Provide expertise in boundary determination and land parcel delineation
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Geodetic surveying, civil engineering, or any other related qualification
- Proficiency in using surveying instruments such as GPS receivers and total stations
- Demonstrate strong mathematical and statistical skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards in surveying practices
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams on land development projects
Working Conditions

Average Salary
- $90k – $110k per year in Australia
- $90k – $115k per year in New Zealand
