The 2023 reopening dates for capped Working Holiday Schemes (WHS) have now been confirmed.
The following table outlines the date each scheme will open and how many places are available in each scheme for 2023.
Once each scheme opens, applications will be open until the quota is filled. Once the quota is filled, the scheme will close until 2024.
Spain and Vietnam
In 2022 the Prime Minister of New Zealand and the President of Spain agreed changes to increase the Spain WHS cap from 200 to 2,000 and allow the visa holder to work for the full 12-month duration of the visa. Similarly, the New Zealand Government and the Government of Vietnam agreed changes to increase the Vietnam WHS cap from 100 to 200.
Work is under way to have formal agreements in place to allow these changes to be implemented. Further information will be made available on our website once opening dates for the Spain and Vietnam schemes can be confirmed.

New Working Holiday 417 visa arrangements for UK passport holders
The upgrade of the New Zealand and UK Working Holiday/Youth Mobility Scheme will come into effect as of July 2023. Both countries have agreed to extend the age of eligibility, maximum stay, and the length of time individuals can work. This will allow more New Zealand and UK citizens to travel and work in each other’s countries for a longer period of time.
The upgraded Youth Mobility scheme will allow New Zealand citizens aged between 18 to 35 to work and live in the UK for up to three years.
